 RLAC EMR Wrap Up

Just over 50 athletes represented Ringwood in the EMR Track and Field Championships over the weekend of Saturday / Sunday 14th and 15th February at the Bill Sewart Athletics track, Nunawading. The weather was warm on both days, although a strong dose of smoke haze on Saturday and headwind on Sunday afternoon made conditions difficult for many of the events.

A special thanks to both Rob Repalust and Jo Benifer our trusty Team Managers who did a fantastic job over the 2 days and to all the officials and parents who went  about their duty in a professional and diligent manner.

There were many outstanding performances and highlights including many PB’s, Andrew Bialecki produced a Victorian Best Performance in the Under 11 Shot put, and Kasey Moore was involved in remarkably 2 dead heats in the 60 and 80 metre hurdles finals. This and much more certainly made for an exciting 2 days of competition.

Congratulations to all athletes on your performances  over the 2 days. ALL results are HERE

Our overall results were :Ringwood - 38 Medals   (18 Gold, 9 Silver, 11 Bronze) – Medal winners: Medal Winners are HERE

First and Second in each event automatically qualify for the State Championships on the 21st/22nd March.  The remaining places are filled by the best performances taken across all the Victorian regions. Progressions to State   BOYS and GIRLS

 State Multi Event Championships

11 Ringwood athletes and their families enjoyed a fantastic weekend in Warrnambool on Sat 31 Jan and Sun 1 Feb competing in the 2009 VLAA State Multi-Event Championships. Whilst the weather was still warm but cooler than Melbourne, the athletes had to contend with a very strong breeze, particularly on the Saturday which affected performance, and made that elusive personal best harder to achieve.

The Multi-Event is a competition, which tests an athlete’s all round skills with points allocated depending on their level of performance in a set range of events (100m, 800m, hurdles, Long Jump and Discus), this event attracts the best athletes in Victoria as they strive to become the State Multi-Event Champion which is considered the State's best "all round” athlete for the season.

All the athletes from Ringwood displayed outstanding teammanship and were a credit to the centre, its not always about being first but appreciating what others have achieved, so well done to you all

Whilst Ringwood had no Medal winners this year there were a number of outstanding performances with three of our competitors making the Top 8

 U10 boys : Dylan Moore 4th, Stephen Dang 18th, Angus Puddy 21st

U11 girls : Danielle Shaw 17th, Amy Benifer 18th

U11 boys : Andrew Bialecki 11th

U12 girls : Kasey Moore 6th

U14 boys : Jason Bialecki 4th, Dylan Tickner 17th

U15 girls : Nicole Benifer 15th

U15 boys : Cameron Moss 15th

Special thanks to  our Team Manager Jo Benifer for her work prior to the event and over the two days of competition. A great job in organising the accommodation and our team dinner on Friday at the Flying Horse,  and Saturday at the Tourist Park.  Finally thanks to all the parents for fulfilling your officials role in such a diligent and professional manner.

 Crystal Creek Camp

Each year the Eastern Metropolitan Region conducts Coaching Camps for athletes in the U10-U15 age groups.  Athletes from the 12 Centres within our Region may attend these Camps at a venue just out of Alexandra.

Dates for this year’s Camps are:

7th – 9th November for U12 – U15 athletes

28th November – 30th November for U10 – U11 athletes

The cost is $140 per athlete, which covers all accommodation, meals, transport and coaching.

You don’t have to be a ‘star’ athlete to attend these Camps; they are aimed at improving an individual’s knowledge and technique.

Interested athletes are encouraged to apply as soon as possible as Ringwood has been guaranteed only 8 places at each camp. We may have the opportunity to send additional youngsters if other Centres do not fill their quota. The $140 fee covers all meals, coaching and transport from a designated pickup point.

Applications are available from your club table or the RLAC or EMR website.  Applications, including payment, must be given to Centre Camp co-ordinator Jo Benifer - Southwood
