 EMR RELAYS

What another great performance by our Ringwood athletes and helpers. There were a lot of tired smiles by the end of the day but the results show it was all worthwhile.

The day started off with a few testing moments with lost batons and a few issues with the timing equipment, but we finally got under way.  Ringwood was in charge of the snow cone machine; this proved to be very popular with a reported 200 snow cones being sold in the first hour!!  It certainly kept our volunteers on the go, many of which stayed there all day, even though they had no athletes competing.

Thank you to all volunteers - your help throughout the day was invaluable and means that such an event can be hosted and allowed many athletes from around the EMR region the chance to compete.

Many of our teams made finals resulting in 9 teams being awarded medals.  We are now waiting for the progressions to the State championships being held at Olympic Park in Melbourne on 13th December. These should be available by this time next week, if not before hand.  Even those teams who did not medal but made the final have the chance to represent Ringwood at State level.

Overall we had 16 teams make finals over all age groups - quite an achievement.  Well done to everyone for a very successful day, Special thanks to our trusty Team Managers Rob Repalust and Jo Benifer who made sure everything went ahead with a minimum of fuss. Additionally they could not have done their job without the time and help of the dedicated age group managers, parent / guardian helpers, volunteers, ex-athletes and of course our very well behaved athletes who are a credit again to the Ringwood centre.

 VPSSA XC CHAMPIONSHIPS

It was great to see a number of Ringwood Athletes representing their Primary Schools at the Victorian Primary Schools State Cross Country Championships held on Friday 24thJuly at Bundoora Park.  To qualify for the final is a fantastic effort, having to proceed firstly through the District qualification and then the Regional/Zone Event and finally compete against the best runners from the Primary School system from Victoria.  Several of these athletes do not run Cross Country during the Winter months so to actually make the final is an outstanding achievement.

 Those representing their schools on Friday included,  Emily Fisher ( 32nd  ) –10yr old Girls  Dylan Moore ( 3rd ) - 10yr old Boys,  Alex Ritchie ( 21st ) - 11yr old Boys,  Khy Blizzard ( 41st ) - 11yr old Boys,  Ella Hopkinson ( 39th ) – 12yr old Girls,  Tristan Blizzard ( 11th ) - 12 yr old Boys and David Friend ( 38th ) - 12 yr old Boys.

Just over 50 athletes represented Ringwood in the EMR Track and Field Championships over the weekend of Saturday / Sunday 14th and 15th February at the Bill Sewart Athletics track, Nunawading. The weather was warm on both days, although a strong dose of smoke haze on Saturday and headwind on Sunday afternoon made conditions difficult for many of the events.

A special thanks to both Rob Repalust and Jo Benifer our trusty Team Managers who did a fantastic job over the 2 days and to all the officials and parents who went  about their duty in a professional and diligent manner.

There were many outstanding performances and highlights including many PB’s, Andrew Bialecki produced a Victorian Best Performance in the Under 11 Shot put, and Kasey Moore was involved in remarkably 2 dead heats in the 60 and 80 metre hurdles finals.  State Multi Event Championships

11 Ringwood athletes and their families enjoyed a fantastic weekend in Warrnambool on Sat 31 Jan and Sun 1 Feb competing in the 2009 VLAA State Multi-Event Championships. Whilst the weather was still warm but cooler than Melbourne, the athletes had to contend with a very strong breeze, particularly on the Saturday which affected performance, and made that elusive personal best harder to achieve.

The Multi-Event is a competition, which tests an athlete’s all round skills with points allocated depending on their level of performance in a set range of events (100m, 800m, hurdles, Long Jump and Discus), this event attracts the best athletes in Victoria as they strive to become the State Multi-Event Champion which is considered the State's best "all round” athlete for the season.

All the athletes from Ringwood displayed outstanding teammanship and were a credit to the centre, its not always about being first but appreciating what others have achieved, so well done to you all

Whilst Ringwood had no Medal winners this year there were a number of outstanding performances with three of our competitors making the Top 8

 U10 boys : Dylan Moore 4th, Stephen Dang 18th, Angus Puddy 21st

U11 girls : Danielle Shaw 17th, Amy Benifer 18th

U11 boys : Andrew Bialecki 11th

U12 girls : Kasey Moore 6th

U14 boys : Jason Bialecki 4th, Dylan Tickner 17th

U15 girls : Nicole Benifer 15th

U15 boys : Cameron Moss 15th

Special thanks to  our Team Manager Jo Benifer for her work prior to the event and over the two days of competition. A great job in organising the accommodation and our team dinner on Friday at the Flying Horse,  and Saturday at the Tourist Park.  Finally thanks to all the parents for fulfilling your officials role in such a diligent and professional manner.
